The residence of Soweto have suffered enough of the electricity access crisis. This is because Eskom seeks to make profits out of electricity supply to the community. This is wrong and evil.
Energy is a fundamemtal right. It can’t be made into a commodity for sale. Black First Land First (BLF) supports Soweto’s call to pay a flat rate of R200 for electricity.
We hope that those who are opposed to this call know the following:
- 90% of electricity in South Africa (SA) is coal based.
- Coal is for free.
- Government pays to establish mines that supply Eskom
- Household consumption of electricity is about 30% (meaning we can sell 70% to industry).
- One company (BHP Billiton) eats 10% of our electricity and pays next to nothing for it (this should be stopped)
Coal is free. Eskom is a state owned entity. It must serve the people.
