Black First Land First condemns the removal of a black teen from a swimming pool in Limpopo, Modimolle by a resort owner Johan Greese after a complaint by certain white individuals.
BLF understands that racist acts will continue to thrive in a racist anti black society. People like Sparrow, Chris Hart and Johan Greese dramatise the symptoms of racism in South Africa. In a society structured to devalue Black lives every day, it should then not be suprising to see whites like Johan Greese whos wealth is built on black disposession arrogantly acting out racism, unabated. The removal of the black teen from the pool after a complaint from white customers renders blacks as subhuman and reinforces the reality that blacks have no real power to change racist behaviour. The practice of racism by Johan Greese can only be eliminated by ending the structure of anti black racism.
BLF believes that white racism should be criminalised and this will only occur throygh the decolonisation of all sectors of South Africa. Although individual acts of racism don’t give a fuller picture of the totality of racism as a structural impediment to black life, we strongly advocate for their criminalisation. Furthermore BLF insists that before racism can be criminalized the following conditions must be met:
1. Return the land to the black people Now!
2. Adopt the principle of “blacks can’t be racist”.
BLF says land first – only then shall white power be broken and racism defeated.
